In 2017, at the age of 86, my father was in decline. He was a widower who lived alone in an apartment in Pittsburgh. When the police volunteered to help him find his “misplaced” car, my siblings and I, who were living in California, insisted that he get caregiver assistance. Through Jewish Family & Children’s Services, we were referred to Lea Robinson. Lea was a godsend. Until we had to move him to a personal care home, Lea provided comprehensive care for my father for about 15 months. Lea did his grocery shopping and his laundry. She organized his meals and provided bathing assistance. At the outset, she helped us sort and settle his outstanding bills. She drove him to his medical appointments. When it became apparent that my father needed more at-home care than Lea’s time permitted, Lea recruited her adult daughters to help. Throughout the time that Lea worked for us, she constantly gave us feedback on my father’s condition and his needs. Even after his move to a personal care home, Lea paid him visits from time to time. In 2021, my father passed away after contracting Covid at the personal care home. We are forever indebted to Lea Robinson. Her kindness and dedication surpassed all expectations.
